How to Analyze Nanomaterials ?
نویسنده
چکیده
Nanotechnology has a great influence on modern technology, just like the development of DNA profiling on biotechnology in the past 50 years. Because of applying knowledge and techniques from natural science, forensic science aims to identify, individualize and evaluate evidence. Evidence will then be used to reconstruct crime scenes, guide investigations and bring criminals to justice. Nanotechnology has been applied towards these purposes. Among the various nanotechnologies, nano-analysis is most commonly seen in forensic science with instrumentations including transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM) and Raman micro spectroscopy (Micro-Raman). This paper will introduce the principles of nanotechnology, instrumentations, and known forensic applications. In addition, the toxicity of nanomaterials and future prospects will be discussed. _________________________________________________________________________________________

Hazardous substances, CERCLA, and nanoparticles - can the three be reconciled?
Toxicology research in the nanotechnology area has focused primarily on human inhalation, ingestion or dermal exposure. Less research has been published on the impact to ecological systems resulting from a release of nanomaterials. Environmental laws such as CERCLA ("Superfund") address the release of "hazardous substances" by obligating the party releasing the substance to (a) report the relea...
متن کاملEuropean regulation affecting nanomaterials - review of limitations and future recommendations.
After learning about the potential risks associated with various specific nanomaterials, concerns have been raised about adequacy of existing regulation in Europe and what should be done to address any potential regulatory gaps related to nanomaterials. Understanding the limitations of the current regulation in regard to nanomaterials is a starting point in a democratic and transparent process ...
متن کاملNanomaterials and the European Water Framework Directive
Besides the European Union (EU) Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of CHemicals (REACH), the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) is probably the single most important piece of environmental legislation in Europe when it comes to dealing with nanomaterials in the future given their widespread and dispersive use. Despite of the importance of the WFD, the WFD has ...
متن کاملFormation of Nano-Bio-Complex as Nanomaterials Dispersed in a Biological Solution for Understanding Nanobiological Interactions
Information on how cells interface with nanomaterials in biological environments has important implications for the practice of nanomedicine and safety consideration of nanomaterials. However, our current understanding of nanobiological interactions is still very limited. Here, we report the direct observation of nanomaterial bio-complex formation (other than protein corona) from nanomaterials ...
متن کاملThree-Dimensional Optical Mapping of Nanoparticle Distribution in Intact Tissues.
The role of tissue architecture in mediating nanoparticle transport, targeting, and biological effects is unknown due to the lack of tools for imaging nanomaterials in whole organs. Here, we developed a rapid optical mapping technique to image nanomaterials in intact organs ex vivo and in three-dimensions (3D). We engineered a high-throughput electrophoretic flow device to simultaneously transf...
متن کاملThe eNanoMapper database for nanomaterial safety information
BACKGROUND The NanoSafety Cluster, a cluster of projects funded by the European Commision, identified the need for a computational infrastructure for toxicological data management of engineered nanomaterials (ENMs). Ontologies, open standards, and interoperable designs were envisioned to empower a harmonized approach to European research in nanotechnology. This setting provides a number of oppo...
